I hate working with other peoples files, it's just never a good idea. I guess I won't be able to keep this simple after all and will have to resort to ordering this gigantic mess of data into a simpler format, so I can apply one of the appropriate functions. I'm pretty sure that summing the factorials should give a unique value, but the problem is pretty much the same as with the simple geometric progression - the formula would be pretty complex, because of the nature of the input data and probably multiple steps would have to be used. Multiplication does not give a unique number however (for instance, if the sets are, the sums of the factorials are the same: 2!=2 an 1!*2!=1*2=2). Firstly, one cannot use the FACT function (or any of it''s siblings) on a group of cells, so one would have to either sum the factorials of individual numbers in the set, or multiply them.
